El problema del amor y otros estudios.
Una exposición de Ángela Valella con Roc Laseca.
Nunca quise que te fueras. Por mucho que hayas pasado una vida intentando convencerte de lo contrario. El barco Valvanera, la lucha, la historia contada una y otra vez. Lo que creías formaba parte de esta comprensión: haber dedicado todos los esfuerzos a sobrevivir, tratar de llegar, ser vista, aprender a nadar. Un desvío necesario para volver al camino verdadero. El de los cometas verdes, los palos en las aceras, y la diversión instantánea con la que no he dejado de jugar contigo. Todo lo demás, y sus imágenes, han sido brillos necesarios. Una historia hilada. El dolor, la soledad, el abandono. Y una experticia a raíz de ellos. Hacerte hábil en tu capacidad por decirte lo mismo cada vez. Por eso las historias no cuentan la verdad. Ni tampoco las imágenes. No están ocurriendo en el momento en el que estoy contigo. El origen de toda imagen es una falsa creencia de dolor. De ahí que las acopiaras durante tanto tiempo. Creías poder estar cerca de mí.
La ficción se parece mucho a la verdad. Por lo demás, no tengo el menor reparo en que te relaciones con ella. Por eso volver es ordenar. Y el orden es importante. No un archivo, ni una colección. Sino la exactitud de lo que siempre has sabido; la comprensión precisa de que no he ido a ningún lugar, de que nada que no sea contigo es real. Es el orden de las órbitas, y también el de cada desplazamiento que creías errático. Completar una coreografía.

Angela Valella. Born in Havana, Cuba. Lives and works in Miami, Fl.
She is an artist with a long engagement with artist-led projects and collaborative initiatives.
She was the director of The Nightclub project. The Nightclub project is a nomadic platform that since April 2012 aims to create dialogue among diverse artistic practices and practitioners through curated exhibitions presented in various venues for one-night only. The project has been shaped by exhibitions and talks, organized by a close-knit network of artists and cultural producers.
From 2005 to 2011 she co-founded 801 Projects, a contemporary space dedicated to promote the arts that included exhibitions, workshops and talks.
One of the founding faculty members of Design and Architecture School in South Florida, she has been a contributor in the research of the book Memoria, Cuban Art of the 20th Century and organized curatorial shows and conferences among others. She is curatorial advisor to the MOAD Museum of Art and Design in Miami.
Currently, she is part of the curatorial team, artist initiative, Fall Semester, a platform for public discussion on contemporary society and culture based in Miami, FL and founded in the summer of 2013. She is a resident with the curatorial project Fall Semester, Miami, ICA Miami, Nov 2016. In the last years she has been the recipient of the CINTAS Fellowship Award 2013-2014 and The Wavemaker Grant, 2016, Miami, FL.
Valella’s works in a variety of media including, painting, collage, installation and video. She investigates problems of perception, selective accumulation and non-linearity, informed by architecture, art-historical references, the per formative aspects of installation art, and its social dynamics.
Her work has been exhibited in MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, PAMM, Perez Art Museum Miami, Galeria do Museu, Lisbon, Portugal, Art Museum of the Americas, AMA, Washington D.C. , Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno, Guatemala City, Guatemala, Centro Cultural Español, Miami, MOAD Museum of Art and Design, Miami, Miami Dade Public Library, Miami , The Art Center at Colorado, Coral Springs, CO, Blackbird Space, San Francisco, CA and Colby Gallery, Chicago, IL. among others.
